Saying Yes!

How do you answer the question of the day? I guess you could say, “it depends on who is asking, and how I feel that day.” Most days when someone says “how are you?” I say “I am ok.” Nothing wrong with being ok, but I have begun to say “yes” to things again. If you know me at all, you know I am a HUGE Liza Minelli fan. If you are too young to know who she is, look her up. She had a song on one of her albums “Say Yes!”. It is one of my favorite songs. One of the lines is “Yes I’d love to, thank you very much, yes”. How often are you saying yes today?

The world has changed so much just this year. We have gone from being sequestered in our homes to being able to go out again. I have gotten both of my vaccinations for the dreaded Covid 19 virus. How could I not do that? I am older and need to make sure I am taking care of myself. There is no one else to do it for me. I am totally in control of how well I am doing that on a daily basis. Saying ‘yes’ to the shots is the most important thing I can do, for myself and those around me.

I am continuing to work full time. Our company has not changed at all during the pandemic, except for the wearing of masks and social distancing. I have also made the decision to work a bit longer, seeing about 3 years more, at the outside. What decisions have you made about going back to work, work from home, or retire? I don’t use the word retire for myself. I am not going to just sit on the porch and read, or withdraw from the world, there is too much to say ‘yes’ to these days. I do not have it all figured out yet, but the process has begun.

What are you saying yes, or maybe no to? Have you gotten your shots, have you decided how to go back to work, have you decided to move, or stay put?? What are you doing with your time?? One of the things we will never get more of is time, do not let yours slip away. Too many people are just getting through the day, wasting the precious time they have been given. Start with a small thing to say ‘yes’ to, see how it feels. Then try something else a bit larger, see how that feels. It feels good to move forward. I have done small things for others, making a difference in their lives. I have also said yes to being on the board for the Southside Boys and Girls Club again, after a 2 years hiatus. Feels great to be involved again.

I started this blog to move forward from the loss of my husband of 15 years. The loss was overwhelming. The blog has helped me to get my thoughts and feelings out of my head and down on paper. The focus is going to change, and to be honest I am not sure how it will look. But moving forward is the most important thing to me. Standing still does not get the work done. Saying "YES" is a great way to get started.
